The land of happiness: Brazil’s Bahia state – National Geographic 2018

National Geographic Traveller (UK) · 16 April 2018
A journey south from Trancoso into the wilder end of the Discovery Coast. The writer travels by plane, boat, horse and cart and beach buggy to reach Caraíva, Praia do Espelho and Corumbau, passing Monte Pascoal, the hill named by Pedro Álvares Cabral when the Portuguese first sighted Brazil in 1500.
The article explains why Bahians call their state the “land of happiness”, and why this protected stretch of coast still feels so remote.
